INSIGNIFICANT

INSIGNIFICANT

Exodus 3:11
And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
Do you ever feel insignificant? Praise GOD! You are in a great place for GOD to use you for HIS glory.
You are also in great company. Let’s look at a few people that seemed insignificant, especially to themselves, and yet GOD used them mightily for HIS glory.
Moses murdered a man and then fled. He wound up herding sheep for forty years. Moses was royalty, and then he was a lowly shepherd. Moses went from, “I am great!” To “Who am I?” Moses felt insignificant, and he felt he could not do what GOD wanted. However, notice what GOD tells him in verse 12:
And HE (this is GOD speaking) said, Certainly I will be with thee: and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
GOD is telling Moses, “You are a servant of the living GOD! I will be with you!” Sure, it might be hard; there might be persecution, you might think you will not accomplish it… but that is because you are looking are yourself and forgetting that GOD has called you. You cannot lose when with GOD!
Now how about Gideon? Let’s take a look at Judges 6:15:
And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.
GOD speaks to Gideon, and the above is Gideon’s response. Gideon is saying, “I am insignificant, LORD. I come from a poor family, and not only that but I am the most significant in my house. How can I do anything for you?”
GOD responds in Judges 6:16…
And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.
WOW! This is the same thing GOD told Moses! I know some great men of the faith. One of my hero’s and mentors is Larry Jones – he is in the LORD’s presence now. He did great things for GOD because GOD was with him. If Brother Larry was here today he would say, “I am not great, just a servant of the GREAT GOD of HEAVEN.” He would say, “I am not great, but I serve a GREAT GOD.” Brother Larry would be correct! Gideon and Moses were correct – they were not great! But they served a great GOD! It is the same for us: we can do what GOD commands because HE is with us.
Something else to notice is GOD loves the insignificant. HE loves to use us for HIS glory. The insignificant are those who are faithful. Moses was a faithful shepherd for forty years. Besides the fact that Gideon knew he was insignificant, he chose to obey GOD and accomplished what GOD desired. Do you realize that GOD called Gideon “a mighty man of valour?? (Judges 6:12) Gideon was hiding threshing wheat… How does this make him mighty? Well, the Midianites were cutting off the food supply to Israel, and Gideon was mighty because he was doing something about it!! OH! Remember Naaman’s little maid from Israel? She was faithful to serve his wife. I guarantee if she was a horrible servant they would not have listened to her.
Maybe you are like Gideon, Moses, or the little maid. You feel you are insignificant. Maybe you clean the restrooms, sweep the floor, pick up after others at church. Praise GOD and thank you! You are doing what looks like a mundane task, a task some would call insignificant. However, it is not insignificant to GOD.
Are you a wife, mom, or grandma? You are raising your kids. Grandma – you are raising grandkids or helping raise them. Sure, it might look mundane, but GOD is with you, and you are making an eternal impact for GOD’s glory. You are not insignificant to GOD! You CAN accomplish what GOD wills because HE is with you!
Now let’s talk about men. I feel qualified to speak about men because well, I am one. I find that most men, even if they won’t admit it, struggle with feelings of failure. You may say, “I didn’t finish school.” or “I am just not that smart.” or “I cannot communicate well.” (Never stops me from speaking! haha) or “I am not doing anything important.” Sir, maybe you feel that ALL you are doing is working hard at a menial task. Go back and study the men I have spoken of today. Study great men of the Bible. GOD uses men who work at menial tasks. The men who remain faithful in those tasks. Keep plodding along as you rely on GOD for the strength to accomplish your “menial” task for HIS glory.
Ecclesiastes 9:10
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
Man, Lady, Student, Child… God is watching you. You are in training for greater things. GOD will use you for HIS glory! You just keep being faithful in your task (which you may think is insignificant), because GOD is watching, my friend!
